Peace Being, Josh Brand’s third solo show at Herald St Gallery, sees the American printmaker return with a new London photography exhibition.
Who is artist Josh Brand?
Brand is caught in the grip of a printing habit acquired as a young teenager in the basement darkroom of his home in Wisconsin. Known for his intriguing manipulations of photographic paper, his prints are actually created without a camera at all. These delicate photograms hover between abstract shapes and tangible subjects, and are the result of complex chemical processes. Think of Brand’s practice as painting with light– something which becomes apparent in the new video work premiered in Peace Being.
Herald St Gallery exhibition
As curator Fionn Meade puts it, there is an “elaborate shadow play” at work in Brand’s work, in which nothing is quite as it seems. So if you are looking for things to do in east London, challenge yourself with photographer Josh Brand’s evocative prints at Herald St, Bethnal Green.
