We remember Leonard Cohen: 1934 - 2016
We remember the beloved poet and singer-songwriter with a Leonard Cohen Spotify playlist, from his first album to his last
The legendary Canadian singer-songwriter, has died at the age of 82. He was a seer: and he poured his visions into 14 albums over 50 years.
His is remembered for his lyrics as much as his singular voice. Cohen's was that old-fashioned kind of lyricsm - like Dylan, he was as much poet as much as songwriter.
Cohen wrote some of the best love songs ever written - always tinted with his trademark melancholy of course. He wrote about death, too. But more than anything he wrote about real life: sex, humour, beauty, friendship, disappointment, journeys, coming home.
He never slowed down, even as his voice changed from clarion howl to gravel and smoke. In the last two years we’ve had two brilliant records. Cohen’s is last album, You Want it Darker was released just last month, and it is one of his best. What a way to say goodbye.
We remember the legend with a chronological playlist, from 1967's Songs Of Leonard Cohen to 2016's You Want it Darker.
