On the 1st day of Christmas: Mr Scrooge is born

We've really got the Victorians to thank for many of our beloved Christmas traditions: crackers, Christmas cards, giving our servants measly keepsakes for Boxing Day. Arguably, though, the Victorian who left London with the biggest festive legacy is Charles Dickens – the subject of The Man Who Invented Christmas, this year's festive film. Dan Stevens (the hairy protagonist in this year's Beauty and the Beast) stars as Dickens, a young author struggling to write his Christmas number one, until he finally finds the inspiration for the character of Ebenezer Scrooge – A Christmas Carol is born.
