By Jen Barton Packer on 23/10/2020

Rain, rain go away... well, after we let the kids splash around for a bit in this fab wet-weather gear.

In our current times, we're spending as much time outside as possible - no matter the climes.

Good news for families: kids' rain gear has never looked better, or been more innovative. From colour-change fabrics to upcycled plastic, you can now find kids' rain gear that looks great and manages to be sustainable and a bit magical, too.

Here are the brands to know and items to buy when you're looking to kit out the little ones in the best kids' rain gear...

Culture Whisper is your curated guide to the best of London. We may earn a commission for items purchased through our retailer links.

Frugi

Organic kidswear brand Frugi has long been a favourite, combining eco fabrics with gorgeous prints and colours.

This Rain or Shine all-in-one (£36-£37) - also available as a jacket or trousers - is on our wish list. The gorgeous woodland-inspired design is made from recycled water bottles.

Muddy Puddles

Another brand known for their all-weather essentials - and commitment to using recycled, sustainable fabrics - Muddy Puddles has wellies, puddlesuits, base layers and more, in bright colours and prints that appeal to all kids.

Made from recycled fabrics, this EcoSplash fleece-lined jacket (£45) from Muddy Puddles is waterproof to 5000mm, breathable and made with taped seams for extra waterproofing.

Le Chameau

The quality and craftsmanship of Le Chameau's wellies is unbeatable.

Lined in jersey, the Petite Aventure wellies (£50) come in five smart shades and will give kids the freedom to roam the local common as if it's a muddy country idyll.

JoJo Maman Bébé is another go-to for your child's wet-weather wardrobe.

We're currently obsessing over this colour-change dinosaur jacket (£42) which gets colourful in the rain.

Hunter

We already know Hunter is the brand-to-know when it comes to colourful, feet-protecting wellies for kids.

Hunter is also fab for wet-weather gear like jackets and ponchos, as well as accessories, like rucksacks and umbrellas. This season, we've got our eye on these glitter wellies (£40) - do they come in adult sizes, too?

Holly & Beau

Holly & Beau is a brand devoted to bringing a magical touch to wet-weather gear, with colour-change raincoats and brollies.

The prints go from white to bright when it's wet.

Is anything cuter than this dog print umbrella (£14) from the brand?

Mini A Ture

You know you can always rely on a Scandi brand for gorgeously constructed, timeless and practical outerwear, and Mini A Ture won't disappoint, with down jackets, parkas, ski pants and snowsuits.

Our pick for everyday rain gear? This hooded anorak (€120.81) with snap-front pocket.

Reima

Reima is one rainwear brand to know. From using coffee beans in jackets for insulation to kitting the kids out for your next ski trip, this Finnish brand combines durability, innovation and quality.

A shower won't dampen your little one's spirit in this striped rainsuit (€79.95).

Töastie

This lovely outerwear brand for kids leads the way when it comes to responsibly sourced fabrics and technical design. We love the puffers from the brand, but it's the waterproof dungarees with a recycled plastic outer shell, adjustable straps and stirrups (£58) that are an everyday London kid's wet-weather must-have. The prints and colours are simply divine.

Grass & Air

We're completely obsessed by the colour-revealing wellies (£20) from Grass & Air.

With loads of colours to choose from, the raindrops on these wellies go from white to multicoloured when wet. Just. Like. Magic.

Photo: Hatley

Hatley

Canadian brand Hatley is as known for its cosy PJs as its outerwear, but the rainwear collection is comprehensive and has everything kids are looking for: bold colours, cute prints and magical macs, like this T-Rex Silhouettes Colour Changing Raincoat (now £19.20).
