The film's many fans will be please to note that Back to the Future the musical is reuniting the original movie production team: co-writer and producer Bob Gale, Composer Alan Silvestri and co-writer and director Robert Zemeckis are all involved in bringing the time travelling adventure to the stage. The score comes courtesy of Jagged Little Pill writer Glen Ballard, who will work alongside movie composer Silvestri to combine the film's memorable 80s/50s soundtrack with a selection of newly-written songs.
After director Jamie Lloyd pulled out of the project due to creative differences, Tony-winner John Rando (Urinetown, On the Town) has stepped in to direct. Rising star Olly Dobson, who has impressed in Bat Out Of Hell and Matilda, returns to the West End to follow in the footsteps of Michael J. Fox as teenager Marty Mcfly.
The well-known story follows Marty as he travels back from the 80s to 1955 and almost gets caught up in a romance with his own mother (or at least her younger self). With time-travelling cars and plutonium power, the film has rich potential for special effects and lively theatrics.
We look forward to seeing how the sci-fi classic plays out on stage with a new score.
