Fashion Film, London
Home of London Fashion Week, Somerset House will be hosting two talks concerning ideas on the role of film in fashion. The talks will invite experts in the industry to share their ideas under the titles 'Framing Fashion: From the Margins to the Centre' and 'Kinetic
Collaborations'.
Framing Fashion: From the Margins to the Centre, Somerset House
For those that have seen, or plan to visit the Guy Bourdin exhibition at Somerset House this first fashion talk should appeal to you. On the first night of discussion, a select panel will consider image-makers that challenge stereotypes in fashion and ask what role fashion film plays within wider visual culture. Whilst reflecting on fashion and media practices, the speakers will debate the relevance of fashion film, and ask how it might affect social and cultural change.
In light of the continuing debate on size zero models, coupled with the current counter culture in which 'normal' people have been employed to front major fashion campaigns, ideas of image making in fashion continuing to be particularly relevant and interesting. Indeed in an age of instagram the image as a form of communication has never been more powerful.  Speakers for this event include Kathryn Ferguson, a film director, curator and research fellow at London College of Fashion (her clients include Chloé, Lady Gaga and Dazed Digital) and Jennifer Byrne, Head of Video at Dazed Group Ltd.
Kinetic Collaborations, Somerset House
Who ‘owns’ the vision for fashion films? Is the filmmaker a creator or a mere conduit and what exactly are the processes that these collaborations follow? In the second fashion talk the panel will explore the different motivations and roles of both parties in these particular contexts, delving into questions of interpretation, authorship and creative control. Speakers include London-based Quentin Jones, illustrator and animator, and Zowie Broach, Head of Fashion at the Royal College of Art and co-founder of the fashion label BOUDICCA.

  • The Delaunay

The Delaunay is an elegant dining room in the tradition of grand Viennese cafés, but for a quick bite you might want to pop into its informal café, The Counter. Either way, you are sure to be tempted by the offerings on display on the Delaunay's roaming cake stand.

  • Jidori, Covent Garden

Jidori is London’s major yakitori restaurant, a popular type of eatery in Japan where the menu consists of one main dish: chicken skewers. Here you can sample a wide range of these Japanese-style kebabs and more to get a flavour of authentic Japanese street food. The tsukune minced chicken skewer and katsu curry scotch egg are particular favourites of ours.

  • Beaufort Bar at The Savoy

Nothing quite matches the glamour of The Savoy. One of the most famous hotels in London and located on the vibrant Strand, The Savoy is home to a range of luxurious restaurants and bars. Beaufort Bar is a particular favourite of ours, not only because of its trademark cocktails but because of its colourful history. The bar itself was once a cabaret stage used by the likes of George Gershwin and Carol Gibbons, and the menu, inspired by the many famous faces that have graced the halls of The Savoy, takes you on a journey back in time.
