Now a much-admired gem at the Royal Opera House for 25 years, it is streamed at 7PM on Friday 8 May, a landmark occasion that will please its fans and newcomers alike.
Violetta is a glamorous society hostess who lives to party, with no want of suitors. But when a serious-minded young man declares his love for him, she turns her back on her Parisian social whirl and moves with him to the country. There she is visited by Alfredo's father, who begs her to give up the scandalous relationship, because it is ruining his daughter's prospects.

Violetta's decision to put the other young woman first comes at a price. She loses Alfredo and her health, but there is happiness even in her decline.
For this streaming, the star cast is lead by soprano Renée Fleming and tenor Joseph Calleja, a performance from 2009. The opera is sung in Italian with English subtitles.
With its effecting arias, big choruses, sumptuous sets, lavish costumes, and show-stopping dance number, the heartbreaking storyline of La Traviata unfolds in style.
La Traviata is part of the #OurHouseToYourHouse season of streaming. It is available for 14 days from 8 May
