The first film was released in 2013, surpassing all expectations and becoming an international musical-animation sensation as well as the highest-grossing animated movie ever – winning Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. Based loosely on Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen, it tells the story of brand-new Disney Princess Anna’s adventures to save her sister Elsa and her home from an endless winter, along with a few curious companions.
The teaser for the sequel gives little away, offering mostly ambiguous glimpses of set-pieces including Elsa (Idina Menzel) apparently attempting to cross the sea with her powers while her sister Anna (Kristen Bell) tries to make a crossing of her own across some treacherous rocks. Elsewhere, Elsa and Olaf the snowman (Josh Gad) are beset by fire while Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and his trusty reindeer Sven canter through a forest.
Meanwhile, strange hovering diamonds hang outside Anna’s castle and two wholly unknown female characters make an appearance. Finally, get a glimpse of an autumnal vista – which suggests that we are bound for a different season altogether, as the franchise moves further into sequel-mode.
With songwriters Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez returning with seven new songs for the movie, alongside co-director and writer Jennifer Lee, co-director Chris Buck, the core cast of Frozen will also be joined by Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) and Sterlin K. Brown (This Is Us) in unconfirmed roles.
Plenty, then, for the internet to dream about in the months ahead of release.
