'Street art' might sound like a euphemism for 'graffiti', but as children at The Creative Arts Club in the last week of the summer holiday will discover, it actually has its root in history and has echoes of cave painting. It's a constantly evolving art form used by such artists as Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol as well as to wield political aggression and resistance on the Berlin Wall and as murals in Northern Ireland during the troubles.

During the back to school, end of summer holidays workshop, children will begin by examining lots of vibrant images and learning a bit about the history of street art before creating their own.

Using the art club's favourite stories, children will illustrate pencil drawn buildings, create 3D cardboard buildings decorated with colourful pop art stencils, stamp and spray textiles to be made into pillows - and will become live street artists, drawing chalk murals on tarmac in Notting Hill.

Suitable for ages 5-8

    ABOUT THE CREATIVE ARTS CLUB

The Creative Arts Club was founded by Helena Allan and Sophie Sharp, a pair of arts graduates keen to share their passion for creativity with children through their unique range of events. As well as their holiday workshops Sophie and Helena run sessions on Sundays, when kids are invited to have fun with a mixture of materials and bring home something they can be truly proud of. And if that’s not enough for your little one, why not send them back every week for a whole term of after school sessions? Here they can expand their knowledge of the history of art as well as experimenting with different media; from painting to textiles.

    A PARTY TO REMEMBER

If you’re on the lookout for a unique party idea for your child or teenager, The Creative Arts Club is well worth your consideration. Sophie and Helena could become your team of bespoke party planners, willing to work to any budget, and are sure to help you wow your guests and thrill the birthday girl or boy with an unforgettable experience.
