DIY party games for everyone
Let's get this party started with a few of our favourite family party games!
Don't switch on the television just yet – with more and more people opting to switch off and disconnect for the holidays, we suspect we'll all need some good old fashioned fun come Christmas day.
We all know Charades and Snap, but why not try some of these other great alternative party games? Some need cunning and wit, whilst others only require some pens and paper or just a single sock. Best of all, their all free (though some might cost you your dignity...)
Not a Monopoly meltdown in sight.
What is it: An exercise in not getting your Aunt Tina confused with Anthony Trollope. Try and write the first lines of a variety of books, and fool others into thinking yours is the original.
Best for: A group of 5-10 aspiring writers.
You will need: A selection of books, pens and paper.
How to play:
1) Take a selection of books off your shelf (the weirder the mix the better – cook books, celebrity biographies, children's stories are all rather easy to write – and difficult to guess)
2) On your go, read out the blurb of one of the books.
3) Everyone else has a go at writing what they think the first line of the book is. You write down the actual first line.
4) You take everyone's entries (try not to laugh) and read them all out.
5) Everyone votes for which they think is the real entry.
6) Points are awarded for guessing the correct answer, and for having people vote for your submission.
How do I win? Know what kinds of words your friends and family use, they might not resist slipping them in.
Top tip: If you use a mix of books (A Grimm's Fairy Tale, Brooklyn Beckham's photography book, A Christmas Carol) you can play with all ages 12 and up. Let's not rewrite War and Peace.
