Outrageously funky British acid jazz outfit Incognito celebrated their 35th Anniversary in 2014 with the release of their 16th studio album, Amplified Soul. Critically acclaimed, and deservedly so, featuring hard-grooving dance numbers and sweet slow burners with jazz, Latin and disco leanings, it proved that the band have lost none of their old spark. One year on they’re still on fine form.
Led by guitarist Jean-Paul "Bluey" Maunick, who cofounded the group back in 1979, the current incarnation features Vanessa Haynes, Katie Leon and longstanding member Tony Momrelle, on vocals (with the odd feature for Bluey himself), a rhythm section anchored by drummer Francesco Mendolia and fiery percussionist João Caetano and a top flight horn section bolstered by session monster Nigel Hitchcock on sax.
Though they’re playing two shows a night for four nights, they’re hugely popular with the Ronnie Scott’s crowd, so don’t hang around if you want a ticket.

    What the critics say

    SOMETHING ELSE!

"another sweet slice of old-school soul"

    S. Victor Aaron

    SOUL TRACKS

"one thing that makes Incognito unique has been Bluey’s knack for refreshing the group’s vocal talent… That ever rotating roster of vocalists bring a different sound to every Incognito jam… The payoff for fans is a project that is familiar as it is fresh"

  • Temper

The brilliant thing about Temper is its focus is on avoiding waste: beef fat is used for homemade tortillas and butter, whilst broth is made using bones. There's also a big emphasis on working with whole animals and rare-breeds such as Beer Fed Dexter, Longhorn and Highland Beef.
