Dance the night away at Koko listening to a Caribou and Dan Snaith concert this October

Lace up your dancing shoes - Dan Snaith is coming to town. The Canadian makes music that snakes ‘round your pulse, then makes it beat a little faster. For the past three years, he’s been doing so from behind the DJ decks as Daphni. But this autumn, he’s setting aside his DJ mantle and resuming work with his old outfit, Caribou.

Caribou’s metier is simmering, shimmyin’ dance music. Snaith takes sounds typical to funk (fast, shuffling drums, bouncy bass) and pop (crooning vocals, melodic synths, disco-inflected guitar) and fits them together in unexpected ways. The result is kaleidoscopic; just listen to 'Sun' or 'Odessa'. “In music,” Snaith once said, “I will have an idea to put some different sounds together or a melody that meshes with a chord sequence or a sonic mood, or whatever. I'm not the type of person who takes physical things apart and plays around with them, but I like taking mental ideas apart and playing around with them.”

And, boy, does he play around with them. As Daphni, Snaith once DJ-ed at a Berlin club for nine hours straight. (He was slotted to play an eight hour-set). He’ll bring that boundless enthusiasm to his performance at Koko this October 8th - part of a tour in support of his sixth album Our Love (out just two days before on October 6th). Thus far, Snaith has released one single. It is rather cannily called 'Can’t Without You'. We admit, Dan, we can’t.

  • VENUE

Koko is Camden’s biggest venue: opened as The Camden Palace Theatre on Boxing Day 1900, it has been known as Koko since a 2004 buyout and refurbishment.

    NEIGHBOURHOOD BAR RECOMMENDATION

Our Black Heart is a good place to soak up a pre-show hard rock atmosphere in darkened surroundings - it’s a hidden gem lurking in a backstreet with a great drinks range: think American bar with Camden Town Brewery beers.

    DID YOU KNOW?

The same man who designed Koko, W.G.R. Sprague, was also the architect behind a number of West End theatres including the Gielgud and St Martin’s Theatre.
