Nutbourne is the latest restaurant opened by the Gladwin brothers, who have already made a name for themselves with The Shed in Notting Hill and Rabbit in Chelsea. Nutbourne offers British favourites for brunch, lunch and dinner that revolve around their ethos of ‘local and wild’.

With an interior inspired by the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall, garden murals and a vegetable-related artwork suspended from the ceiling, the Gladwin brothers make the connection with their family farm and vineyard (also called Nutbourne) in West Sussex abundantly clear.

The brothers built the 'Nutty Fireplace', a wood-fired barbecue grill, themselves and burn only sustainable wood from ancient forests close to the family farm. Interesting menu choices include venison cigar with cabbage and celeriac chutney, salted baked turnip with dandelion, seed clusters and lemon tahini dressing. An enticing choice of English cheeses is displayed on a peacock blue Welsh dresser, though the Gladwin take on a Viennetta ice cream is the dessert of choice.

Naturally, wines from the Nutbourne Estate get top billing and cocktail highlights include the gin-based Gardener's Delight. Come balmy days, the riverside location on Ransome's Dock is hard to beat.
