New Michelin-starred restaurants in London

By Lucy Brooks on 8/10/2019

Six London restaurants have been awarded stars on the Michelin 2020 list… From the 15-cover newcomer to the triple-starred fine dining favourite – how many have you visited?

Da Terra, Bethnal Green

Da Terra, Bethnal Green

The Town Hall Hotel's Da Terra restaurant has won its first Michelin star for its hearty Latin American and Italian fusion flavours. Chefs Paulo Airaudo and Rafael Cagali channel their Brazilian and Italian heritage, along with skills honed under Heston Blumenthal at The Fat Duck, to create a menu that feels creative and inventive, but still classic. Instead of picking and choosing, you trust in the chefs who curate and present a Blind Tasting Menu at £80 for eight courses or £95 for 11 courses.

The Dysart Petersham, Richmond

The Dysart Petersham, Richmond

The Dysart Petersham is already a firm favourite among Richmond locals. Now armed with a Michelin star, this neighbourhood restaurant is about to become a destination dining spot. And it's well worth venturing to leafy west London. The family-owned gastro pub combines bucolic gardens and cosy Tudor interiors with a thoughtful and painstakingly prepared selection of dishes spanning rich Yorkshire grouse with bilberry sauce to silky cauliflower and miso tortellini. The tasting menus (including a very well-designed vegetarian option) showcase the highlights for £70 per person.

Mãos, Shoreditch

Mãos, Shoreditch

With just 16 seats, it was never going to be easy to bag a table at Nuno Mendes's Shoreditch restaurant. But Mãos will be even more popular now it has a Michelin star. Unlike its glitzy sister restaurant, Chiltern Firehouse, this hidden loft space has a secretive supper club atmosphere where it's more about making friends with fellow diners and the chef himself than spotting celebrities. The space is stripped back and intimate, and Mendes welcomes guests with his trademark Portuguese hospitality, handing out canapés and casually preparing dishes in the background. The 14-course tasting menu is presented without any fanfare – but there's plenty of wow-factor in the flavours. Dinner starts at £150 per person.

Endo at The Rotunda, White City

Endo at The Rotunda, White City

High-end sushi restaurant Endo at The Rotunda is another tiny space that's going to be even harder to get into after its well-deserved first Michelin star. The 15-cover restaurant inside the rotunda space of the former Television Centre is visually gorgeous, with a pared-back Japanese aesthetic and stunning light installation. Chef Endo Kazutoshi, previously at Zuma and Spain's El Bulli, serves precise yet playful sushi. The signature 18-course omakase tasting menu (£180) or the smaller 15-course option (£150) are chopped up and tweaked to each diner's taste.

La Dame De Pic, The City

La Dame De Pic, The City

Anne-Sophie Pic's classic French fine dining restaurant at the Four Seasons hotel has won its second Michelin star. With silver service, sumptuous interiors and views over the Tower of London, it's a traditional special occasion restaurant – with sophisticated flavours to boot. It's also a beacon of tradition among the edgier small-plate-style eateries making inroads in the Michelin star stakes.

The Lecture Room & Library, sketch, Mayfair

The Lecture Room & Library, Sketch, Mayfair

Millennial pink walls and futuristic pod bathrooms make Sketch Mayfair an Instagram cliché. But the refined dining room upstairs attracts a different crowd. The Lecture Room & Library has been feted with a third Michelin star, joining the ranks of Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. The bright colours and zany interiors provide the perfect foil for an elaborate yet refined take on French cuisine.
