After success in Tooting, Meat and Shake's new restaurant serves up a deep south smokehouse menu on Ealing Green.
The clue's in the name and if you're looking for burgers, chicken, steak and milkshakes, Meat and Shake has an inventive selection. This latecomer to the gastro-burger dude food trend doesn't bring much innovation but is replete with Instagram-friendly towering burgers and decadent 'dirty fries' (loaded with chilli, cheese and jalapeños).
The starry signature dishes that should set Meat and Shake apart include Par-cured Beef Ribs or Smoked Chicken, both brined in broth and then smoked on site. But the smoker was broken when we went to review (there was also just one desert and no coffee available). If you'd like to wash all that down with a pint or some cocktails, you're in the wrong place. In keeping with the completely Halal menu, this is a dry restaurant.
Normally you'd have the option of playing pretend with a mocktail menu, but they were yet another thing that was unavailable to try. This leaves the titular shakes, which were sweet and thick and fine. The pistachio and marshmallow is not as innovative as it sounds: just pistachio ice-cream with some cursory marshmallows on top.
Unfortunately the litany of opening-month hiccups meant the menu that we could sample was limited. There is nothing ground-breaking or memorable about the food and the biggest draw this diner style restaurant seems to have is the Halal menu.
