Any foodies looking for a nice spot for a detox will be thrilled with Roots and Bulbs. There’s a huge range of well balanced cold-press fruit juices, smoothies and impressively large menu. However, unlike many of Deliciously Ella’s favourites, this bar isn’t scared using animal products such as mackerel – giving them a few more flavours to play with than alternative health orientated fruit juice bars.
Best juice bars in London
Their fruit juices are cold-pressed twice, which they claim helps the juices retains more nutrients and flavour. After pressing, all that’s left is a sheet of almost dry fibre that crumbles when touched – as all the goodness is squeezed into the bottle.
Choose from a range of green fruit juices, such as cleansing cucumber, celery, good-for-you spinach, lemon, ginger with added spice (whatever that ends up meaning), or something sweeter, (still packed with wholesome veg of course) such as the cucumber, pineapple, kale and herb fruit juice, or the hot red, carrot ginger and spice.
Those that love the guilty pleasure of a filling smoothies but would rather avoid all that ice-cream, milk and sugar will love Roots and Bulbs’ smoothies, which taste just as good, if a little different, and are made with a selection of superfoods to keep tired London bodies going: from bee pollen to spirulina and coconut water fresh from baby coconuts.
All smootheis are home-made and – for those wondering how they get that delicious milky flavour without any diary – mostly contain almond bilk and banana, as well as combinations of chai seeds, avocado, cocnut meat, dates, cocao powder and (for the ‘gym freak’) protein powder! These filling thirst-quenchers are, in the words of Roots and Bulbs: ‘for both those with a sweet tooth and the purist.’
Roots and Bulbs review
The space at Roots and Bulbs is sleek and modern and instantly calming. The paired back interior has an (expensive) DIY aesthetic with a hint of green, rows of ingredients are left out from all those good-for-you smoothies, like a dreamy childhood sweet shop – but with chai seeds instead of blackjacks.
The staff here are super friendly and knowledgeable. If you think you’re going to end up a bit of a regular, don’t forget to pick up their loyalty cards.
