Think fun and playful, cool, chilled and relaxed. Chef Gizzi Erskine will open her first solo restaurant this March as part of a new Mare Street development in Hackney. it will be a mixture of food and music with a deli, florist, record shop and podcast station besides the British meets Californian brasserie menu, deli and Hackney Gelato stand. With Gizzi involved, it is bound to be create a huge buzz.

Among the menu items planned, we love the idea of steak tartare, egg and bone marrow with Marmite soldiers.

Much of the focus will be on cooking over a wood fire, so so on-trend. Expect wood-fired pizzas, fried mozzarella 'sandwiches', gourmet burgers, rotisserie chicken with schmalz and the obligatory roast cauliflower with pickled celery and Gorgonzola sauce.

For weekends, a bespoke egg menu, a bottomless Bloody Mary counter and Sunday roasts are on the cards.

As far as possible, Erskine plans to use local Hackney producers from pickle specialists Newton and Pott, Hackney Honey, Secret Smokehouse to Lili Vanilla and The Meringue Girls. There will a cafe from Flying Horse Coffee too with an in-house roasting team.

Concurrently, Gizzi is working on turning her 'Pure Filth' decadent healthy food pop-up at Tate Britain last November into a cafe concept to roll out to compete with the big guys on a properly happy meal.

More information to be released shortly.
