New exhibition Somerset House
Things to do in London: Guy Bourdin: Image - Maker will display the photographer's most significant works. This will include 100 colour exhibition prints, as well as early and late works in black and white that serve to challenge Bourdin’s reputation as a colour photographer. Bourdin worked with the magazine as his medium; he never compromised and instead pushed the boundaries of what fashion photography could achieve.
This major show will chart Bourdin’s distinguished 40-year career from Man Ray’s protégé to photography revolutionary in his own right. In his pursuit of perfection Guy Bourdin was provocative and challenging. His unique eye established itself in advertising and editorial and  continues to serve as an inspiration for photographers such as Tim Walker and Nick Knight today.

A little more...

  • Did you know?

Nicolle Meyer was Guy Bourdin's muse for three years. On working with the photographer she said:

In the beginning, when he first saw me, I stood for the kind of woman he was looking for - a kind of child woman. The other thing was that he saw that I was very willing. You couldn't be complicated if you worked for him. You needed to be open to every suggestion. I was never fazed by anything he asked me to do. If I had to hand with my back dangling on a beam suspended from a wall for an hour, I wouldn't put up a fight. I kind of liked doing all this work even it was difficult. That led to a good relationship and he felt free with me to try out whatever he wanted.

  • Roka, Aldwych

There are four Rokas around London – Mayfair, Aldwych, Canary Wharf, and Fitzrovia – and each one provides a dark urbane corner for some of the best (if most expensive) Japanese food in London.

  • The Waldorf Hilton

This 60-seater cocktail den from Idris Elba can be found at the Waldorf Hilton in Covent Garden. In addition to its 'hidden cocktail menu' (guests can expect drinks to share a tropical theme), small plates cooked up by The Waldorf’s resident Executive Chef Karl Richardson are served.

  • Beaufort Bar at The Savoy

Nothing quite matches the glamour of The Savoy. One of the most famous hotels in London and located on the vibrant Strand, The Savoy is home to a range of luxurious restaurants and bars. Beaufort Bar is a particular favourite of ours, not only because of its trademark cocktails but because of its colourful history. The bar itself was once a cabaret stage used by the likes of George Gershwin and Carol Gibbons, and the menu, inspired by the many famous faces that have graced the halls of The Savoy, takes you on a journey back in time.
