Shooting, stalking or just walking the labradors around the Glen: having a jolly good roll in the muck forms part of the lifeblood of upper class traditions. And since 1835 elegant shooting parties and outdoorsy types have protected themselves from the elements with clothing and equipment from Holland and Holland.
Renowned for rifle-making, all-weather menswear, tweed and tradition, it's a bastion of British heritage.
And now this historic brand gets a shot of high fashion with a collection of male and female lifestyle wear created by supermodel Stella Tennant and former Vogue Editor Isabella Cawdor.
Isabella Cawdor & Stella Tennant
The pair combine proven fashion pedigree with a lifelong love of rural life: Cawdor's family estate is inspiration for the new tweed; Tennant's comfort zone is more rural than runway. She lives in rural Scotland and insists all the pieces in this new collection ''should have a function".
The result is a selection of shirts, skirts, outer wear, accessories and shoes, designed to layer for sleek, stream-lined silhouettes and, crucially, to withstand inclement British weather. A fully waterproof Field Jacket is crisper than the standard Barbour style and not at all waxy. But the clean lines and luxe fabric come complete with large practical pockets for storing empty shells and the mandatory hip flask of sloe gin. Long padded overcoats and sumptous shearlings are toasty enough for elk hunting in Sweden but would not look out of place on the school run.

The womenswear in particular is a revelation for outdoorsy types bored of boxy plus fours and blazers. And it's refreshingly wearable even for those of us whose idea of a bracing countryside expedition is a stroll around Hampstead Heath.
Elegant, feminine pleated skirts and culottes combine with androgynous cropped Guernsey style sweaters and delicate silk shirts. Thermal knits are cosy without any extra bulk and come in a decadent colour palette. Extra long sleeves and polo neck collars are designed for optimum cosiness plus a pop of brightness peeping out from neutral overcoats.
Coyote fur hood
Furs include a Snow Queen-style coyote fur hood and versatile wraps that can be fashioned as gillets out in the field, or slung over the shoulders to prevent shivering in a ball gown. And in a playful nod to Great British eccentricity, an a-line midi skirt made of weasel fur is a stand out statement piece.
