Part 2 of this year’s New Designers exhibition takes place throughout the first week of July, and brings a different set of creative genres to the fore than Part 1. These include more established practices such as furniture and illustration, alongside modern manifestations of design such as graphic design and motion and digital arts. In addition to these, product and industrial design, spatial design and animation are also explored.
New Designers events
Look out for the Awards Preview – each year New Designers Awards recognise the most innovative design by recent graduates at the start of their careers. This year the big prizes went to Jack Lennie from Edinburgh Napier University for his fantastic rehabilitation of old scrap, and Olivia Qi from Glasgow School of Art for her colourful knitwear collection.
New Designers' One Year On is another significant event to make time for. This installation explores the work of 50 designers currently in their first year of business, and focuses on the quality of their craftsmanship and creativity. This year it has been curated by jewellery designer, photographer and co-founder of east London boutique Luna and Curious: Rheanna Lingham.
For a show whose alumni include Thomas Heatherwick, Bethan Gray and Dead Good, we can be sure to witness the next generation of top British designers amongst the 3,000 creative graduates who are involved in this year’s New Designers.
