The Design Museum is celebrating thirty years since leading British design manufacturer and retailer, SCP, opened its doors with a new exhibition: The Arrangement of Furniture in a Museum. For those that haven't heard of SCP before, the design retailer was set up by Sheridan Coakley on Curtain Road in Shoreditch back in 1985, before the arrival of the trendy hipster, and is best known for launching the careers of design favourites Matthew Hilton, Konstantin Grcic and Jasper Morrison.
Design Museum exhibition highlights
The display incorporates over 40 items that have been handpicked to convey the evolution of the design brand: from past original pieces to present-day products. Worth looking out for are Jasper Morrison’s 1986 minimalist Slatted bar stool, and Konstantin Grcic’s strong graphic Mono side table, from the mid-90’s.
SCP’s regular collaborator, Michael Marriott, has curated the exhibition, pairing SCP products with other design names to emphasise the relationship between smaller items and larger furniture, between material and texture. The installation also gives us an insight into the personalities that have shaped the development of the company.

The show is in fact a spin-off of SCP’s exhibition which lit up the Milan Salone del Mobile this year, the annual furniture fair which attracts the greatest designers around. So if you missed your chance in Italy, take a stroll to south London to catch the installation this summer right on your doorstep.

  • Le Pont de la Tour

The most sophisticated restaurant in the D&D clan has recently had a gentle Art Deco makeover, retaining the best views of Tower Bridge from its windows. The limited outdoor seating is possibly London's most sought-after riverside spot, so book early.
