Italian design has always seemed to lead the pack, so it comes as no surprise that the Conran Shop has looked to Italy as inspiration for its new Conran Italia collection. Bringing together home furnishing, lighting, accessories and speciality food, this design event London is an all-round celebration of Italian lifestyle and culture. ‘‘ Italian design has been wrapped up in the DNA of the Conran Brand from its early days…’ says Jasper Conran, Chairman and Creative Director of The Conran Shop. ‘…Italian culture has influenced us since the very beginning.”
What will the new collection include?
Conran Italia is made up of three sub-collections that take us on a journey through Italy, and the different seasons.
Starting at the top, in the creative capital of Milan, we have the Milanese Apartment and Galleria launching in February, which encapsulates modern Conran furniture design with a classic twist and an architectural sensibility.
The next stop is Tuscany and the Late Spring series in April, where hand-painted decorations, and natural materials and textures conjure up alfresco dining in rustic courtyards.
Finally, we travel down the Amalfi coast to the heel of the boot in Puglia; with a selection of High Summer items that take us from June through to August. Linen fabrics, vintage pieces, and outdoor furniture remind us of a summer’s picnic at the beach.
Which designers are involved?
The wide-ranging collection involves some distinguished designers including the desirable Eduardo Paolozzi ceramics, monochrome serveware by furniture designer Paola Navone and Magnus Long has curated an exclusive line of products. There will also be hand blown glass, lighting and decorative accessories from the Venetian island of Murano.
Since it was founded in 1974 by prominent designer Terence Conran in Chelsea, Conran designs have played a leading role in London’s flourishing creative arts scene. We fully expect Conran Italia to be another covetable collection of furniture and lifestyle products: this time with a welcome Italian twist.
