These Rooms revisits a key episode of Irish history, the 1916 Easter Uprising. A collaboration between the Irish performance companies ANU and Coisceim Dance Theatre, it’s an immersive, site-specific blend of dance, theatre and visual arts, which will take over the entire basement of Shoreditch Town Hall. It had rave reviews when it premiered in Dublin two years ago, with the Telegraph describing it as ‘subtle’ but ‘hugely stirring.’

4 – 22 June, Shoreditch Town Hall

Session is an outdoor music gig combining hip hop, freestyle and commercial dance. Live music comes care of Still House’s Dan Canham, Tottenham’s Steppaz, Performing Arts Academy and North London’s Afrobeats powerhouse, Empire Sounds.

In Search of Dinozord combines the vibrancy of African music with an exploration of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s harrowing history of war, trauma and economic uncertainty. It’s the work of the Congolese dance artist Faustin Linyekula, and as well as live vocals from South Africa's Hlengiwe Lushaba, it brings in fragments of Mozart’s Requiem and guitar riffs from Jimi Hendrix.

15 – 16 June, The Place

Mercenary is football-inflected dance… the work of former semi-professional footballer Ahilan Ratnamoham, it explores the contrast between the Western perception of the working conditions of migrant workers building the stadiums for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the workers’ own view.

  • Radio Alice, Hoxton Square

Radio Alice serves the best sourdough pizza we’ve ever tasted. They foreground a traditional cooking practice from Bologna, which sees the base cooked first, crispy on the outside and doughy but light, with the majority of the toppings added afterwards. The result is simply divine.
