So his appearance at the Royal Festival Hall ( 17 Mar 2018) in Tchaikovsky's sweeping Piano Concerto No 1 will be an event indeed, and one to catch. Tickets are sure to sell out quickly, such is the draw of Trifonov.
Before those familiar striding opening chords on the piano, the London Philharmonic Orchestra plays an arrangement of music from Tchaikovsky's ravishing ballet score for Sleeping Beauty made by his surprise fan, Stravinsky.
And the final work in this all-Russian programme is Stravinsky's own elegiac piece, The Fairy's Kiss, his homage to Tchaikovsky.
A Tchaikovsky concerto played by a Tchaikovsky Competition winner, and all conducted by that great champion of Russian music, Vladimir Jurowski. What more can you want, apart from a vodka or two?
