Intrigued by the Royal Opera's Spring 2016 season?
completed shortly before her tragic suicide, marked a complete break with the
conventions of drama. With no distinct characters, setting or staging
directions, its twenty-four scenes create an abstract world of words. Few depictions of clinical depression have ever

brutal power and dramatic impetus of his music, the rising Venables seems the
perfect choice to adapt such a work. Composer-conductor Richard Baker wields
the baton. 4:48 will play over four
nights at the Lyric Hammersmith.
