Luxury Fragrances: London winter scents
The changing seasons require a new scent: stay unique with these artisan fragrances
1. Frederic Malle, Cologne Indelebile
For autumn this fragrance created by Dominique Ropion takes the musky undertones of Geranium pour Monsieur and layers notes of Orange Blossom Oil and a few zests from Calabria. The result is an ambiguous aroma which surprises the wearer with its unusual freshness. It's a scent that translates the lightness of summer into the darker nights, retaining its power throughout - unlike so many other colognes, which quicky fade from the skin without a trace.
The Frederic Malle shop is pocketed away in Burlington Arcade. Step inside however and you're immersed in the world, with a wall of scents on display in a glass case and large eye catching bottles nuzzling against the window. A consultation desk in the middle of the room is designed for customers to explore the perfumes at their leisure and photographs of Frederic Malle creators ensures the story behind each scent remains present.
Available to buy 14 Burlington Arcade, W1J OPH, £155/ 100ml for Frederic Malle.
Created by James Heeley, an English perfumer and designer, Heeley products are formed from the finest French ingredients. Pure, delicate and considered the range of Heeley's Eau de Parfums work for both sexes. In particular we recommend Iris de Nuit. Taking the root of the Iris flower as its basis, this rejuvenating and delicate scent marks a new approach to florals in which the traditional pattern is given a glamorous and decisive edge.
Founded in 1984, Les Senteurs is London's oldest independent perfumery, created with a desire let customers discover a perfume they love at leisure. Thus the shop is a haven for olfaction, cosy and home to 360 different scents.
Available to buy Les Senteurs, 71 Elizabeth Streeet, SW1 19PJ, £88
3. Jo Loves: Red Truffle 21
This new fragrance from Jo Loves, (Jo Malone's latest venture) is delightfully complex. Inspired by the scintillating fragrance of shaved truffle, Red Truffle 21 blends peppery notes with sweeter blends of Mandarin and Fig leaf. The result is at once earthy and fresh, reminiscent of crisp autumnal mornings. Launching on the 5th October, we highly recommend.
Discovered when Jo Malone was comforted by her neighbourhood grocer after bad spell at work, the Jo Loves, Elizabeth Street store is today a far cry from the greengrocers it once was. Step inside and you'll find yourself immersed in an airy, floral atmosphere where immaculately arranged products come together to create a sanctury of scent. Work your way to the back of the shop and enjoy an opportunity to create your own candle, the perfect compliment for your home.
Available to buy exclusively at 42 Elizabeth Street, SW1W 9NZ, £95
4. Azzi Glasser: Sequoia Wood
Created as part of a unique collection for Harvey Nichols entitled The Perfumer's Story, this enigmatic fragrance by Azzi Glasser wraps the wearer in warm hues of Cedar, Pachouli and White Musk. At the heart of the scent is red Sequoia Wood, sensual and sensational in its own right. Wear during the day and enjoy the way the scent develops, becoming headier and thicker as evening nears.
Aside from the specially designed series of 11 scents, there's a more exclusive experience on offer from Azzi Glasser. Book a consultation for your own unique fragrance, which will be created based on each person's personality and style. Scents will be made up of rare ingredients, fused and blended as if manufacturing a new strand of your DNA. This truly unique experience comes at a price, however, with consultations starting at £15,000.
Available to buy from Harvey Nichols as part of The Art of Scent series
5. Ex Nihilo: Fleur Narcotique
For the new season we recommend Fleur Narcotique, created by Quentin Bisch. Within the fragrance fuller notes of Moss, Wood and Musk are combined with lighter layers on Lychee and Peach to create a scent that is hypnotic and enthralling.
Situated on the sixth floor of Harrods, the Ex Nihilo boutique reflects absolutely the demi-bespoke essence of the perfumes. It’s simple and refined with distinctive bright blue and mirrored ceiling. Metal and marble are softened by wood and felt. On entering, you are guided through the different dimensions of each scent, allowing you to make an informed choice about the most suitable fragrance for you.
Available to buy from Harrods, £150 for 50ml and £210 for 100ml.
