London has a bit of a thing about breakfast at the moment. First, we had the quirky Breakfast Club, styled like a 1950s American diner. Then there's the infamous Cereal Killer Cafe - the less said about that the better. Now, thanks to a collaboration between street-food heroes Waffle On and the charming Bermondsey cafe The Watch House, Londoners have a brand new spot for late night waffles.

The cafe is a lovely little spot, filled with art. It may be small, but the height of the ceiling means it doesn't feel poky. As for the food - as gimmicks go, this one really works. The fluffy, salty-sweet buttermilk waffles make brilliant bases for Waffle On's imaginative toppings, some savoury, some sweet.
We had two (okay, three) of their signature duck waffle: shredded duck with plum-sauce, topped with an egg. The vegetarian option was great, too: a beautiful goats' cheese creation, scattered with figs and drizzled with honey and blueberry coulis (somehow, it wasn't too sweet).
Traditionalists went for the Chocolate waffle with cream and meringue. We weren't crazy about the sauce, which was thin and tasted no different from your average chocolate syrup, but we still had two portions.
It might sound a bit gimmicky, but this place just works. Make sure you stop in next time you're in Bermondsey.
