What do you get if you mix the best of food, booze, culture, fashion, music and more? Fairground is a brand new pop-up adventure devised by the folks behind foodie sensation Streetfeast. This time it’s more than just culinary innovation: this is a full festival experience, open all day, every weekend for the next 10 weeks.
Be ready to recoil when you reach the venue: the disused disheveled office block is the opposite of elegant, yet inside it has been transformed into a three-story wonderland of food and culture. London’s perfected the art of the pop-up and this venture combines the best of the bunch in a single space. Of course, like the majority of offbeat temporary ventures, it’s all the way in East London. But this one’s worth the trip. Fairground is a multi-sensory all-day experience. Turn up at 10am to see an art installation, have some snacks, join a workshop, take in a talk -- and don’t be surprised to find yourself still there, stuffed with food and drink, dancing away at 2am. Best of all, with such a diverse collection of events, we predict an eclectic and savvy crowd (not limited to Haggerston Hipsters and scraggy students).
The plethora of food stalls that proved so popular at Streetfeast will be dotted about, but that’s just the beginning. Each of the three floors has a theme: Fairground Live functions as an event space by for everything from art installations to brand takeovers and will turn into a dance space at night; The Grandaad Lounge is a cultural hub with a silent cinema, workshops, masterclasses and talks (there’s plenty of buzz surrounding the as yet still secret list of speakers); finally on the third floor there’s the Fairground Diner, which boasts panoramic views and the promise of takeovers from a different London chef each week. With so much to do and see check it out soon, so you’ve got time to go back for more.
